Mrs Aishah Ndanusa Ahmad is the Deputy Governor for Financial System Stability (FSS) at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). She oversees five strategic departments including Banking Supervision, Financial Policy & Regulation, Payments System Management, Other Financial Institutions Supervision and Consumer Protection. Mrs Ahmad is a member of the CBN Governing Board, Monetary Policy Committee and the Committee of Governors.
She chairs the boards of Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS), the Nigeria Commodity Exchange (NCX) and the Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC). She also chairs the national Financial Inclusion Technical Committee and the Payment System Oversight Committee of the Pan–African Payments and Settlement System (PAPSS). The first female deputy governor in charge of FSS at the CBN, Mrs Ahmad leverages over 26 years of combined policymaking, investment and financial industry experience and has been credited with bringing dynamism, a strong combination of academic & professional qualifications in finance and a stellar private sector career to her role as deputy governor, FSS.
She has helped institute key policies at the CBN designed to strengthen the legal, regulatory and prudential framework, promote strong credit growth to the real sector of the economy, strengthen consumer protection, improve financial access and inclusion, enhance the payment system and preserve financial system stability in Nigeria. Prior to her appointment to the CBN, Mrs Ahmad was an accomplished banker, investment and financial expert and corporate executive. Her career spans major financial institutions including Zenith Bank Plc, Diamond Bank Plc, Stanbic IBTC Bank (a member of the Standard Bank Group) and NAL Bank Plc.
Throughout her banking career Mrs Ahmad built a successful track record of driving transformational performance across private wealth, retail and commercial banking businesses. In 2019, in recognition of her contributions to the banking industry, she was awarded Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). Mrs Ahmad holds the highly respected Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) professional qualifications. She is an INSEAD Certified Board Director and a recipient of the Economic Development Certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School, U.S. Mrs Ahmad holds an MSc. in Finance and Management from Cranfield University School of Management, UK an MBA (Finance) from the University of Lagos and a Bachelors degree in Accounting from the University of Abuja. She attended Zarumai Model Primary School, Minna and Federal Government Girls College, Bida, both in Niger State.
A respected leader and role model in the financial services industry, Mrs. Ahmad is passionate about financial inclusion, gender equality, youth empowerment and protecting the rights of children. Her efforts at institutionalizing initiatives at the CBN designed to promote gender equity, enhance mentorship and leadership opportunities for women have been recognized. She is a member of the Graca Machel Trust Expert Leaders Group and volunteers at SOS Children’s Villages International, SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria and Women in Management Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ).
As a prominent figure in the financial industry, Mrs. Aishah Ndanusa Ahmad has been invited to speak at various policy forums and conferences, sharing her expertise on topics such as cybersecurity, financial sector supervision, financial inclusion, fintech regulation, and the impact of COVID-19 on financial stability. In recognition of her service to the nation, Mrs Ahmad was amongst the personalities conferred with
the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) following the approval of Mr President on May 28, 2023. An indigene of Bida, Niger State, Mrs Ahmad, 46, is married with children.
